Houston, TX — October 30, 2025 — With the Vice President’s announcement that TSA agents and other federal employees may go without pay during the latest budget delay, many working families are facing a new worry — how to afford their children’s sports fees this coming summer. GameStreet Sports, a Houston-based nonprofit dedicated to making organized youth sports accessible for all kids, has launched the “Serve & Play Scholarship Fund” to ensure that children of unpaid federal employees don’t have to sit out the upcoming sports season. “When families who serve our nation are suddenly left without a paycheck, their kids shouldn’t have to miss the chance to play,” said Tom Griffin, Founder of GameStreet Sports.
“Youth sports are about more than games — they build confidence, teamwork, and hope. We want to make sure that continues, especially when times are tough.” The new fund will provide registration fee assistance, uniforms, and equipment for children whose parents are federal workers impacted by the funding freeze. GameStreet Sports is partnering with local and national youth sports associations to identify families in need and streamline the process so kids can register before the summer season begins. Supporters can contribute to the fund directly through the organization’s website at www.gamestreetsports.org/federalfund or by purchasing limited-edition “Keep Kids in the Game” merchandise, with 100% of proceeds going toward scholarships.
“We’re calling on communities across America to step up,” Griffin added. “These families have served us — now it’s our turn to serve them.” GameStreet Sports, whose tagline is “Giving back is part of the game,” aims to fund at least 500 scholarships nationwide through this initiative. The organization invites youth leagues, donors, and corporate sponsors to join the effort in ensuring every child has a place to play — regardless of their family’s financial situation.
